Girls Speak Out

Investing In Girls & Building Communities

Girls Speak Out – is a coding, media, and advocacy after-school training program for girls aged 14 to 24 living in high-density, low-income urban communities across Zimbabwe. digital journalism and advocacy training and civic leadership mentoring are designed to trigger community activism and bring about social change.

“Girls are hardest hit. With no tech literacy, girls can’t communicate effectively in a growing digital world. A majority of all jobs in Africa will soon require science, maths and technology skills.”

The program is a direct response to the growing number of young women in high-density suburbs failing to further their education and getting entangled in high-risk behaviour. The communities where the project is being conducted have high numbers of girls dropping out of school and teenage pregnancies.

The program is continuously creating partnerships with the local school districts, media colleges, media houses, advocacy and civic organizations and media and matches a caring adult professional volunteer with a referred youth.

“We envision communities where young women are empowered and are at the forefront of advocacy and activism, sparking social change”
